HAYNE DEVON WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
Bex & Phil
I first met Bex at CrossFit and we got chatting one day about me being her wedding photographer at Hayne at Zeal in mid Devon.
Now, I’m sure you will see from the photos below that Bex is a bit of a character. She’s super friendly and warm and on the day, I had a brilliant time with her, Phil, their families and friends. After a while they decided to book, I was looking forward to returning there as I photographed a wedding at Hayne several years ago so knew what I was in for.
“We dont want tradtional style photos”
At first Bex & Phil were unsure whether to have a photographer for their wedding. But after some chats with me at the gym and some conversations with their friends they decided it might be a good idea. We met over coffee a few weeks later and they said that they didn’t want all the traditional stuff that wedding photographers usually do. No worries I said, I don’t like to do that either!
They said they wanted the photography to be super relaxed and candid with very little posing and group stuff, perfect, my kind of day. Their vision was for a wedding with photos to reflect their true spirit of them as a couple.
Kind Words from Bex
“Mike was fantastic from the beginning. We had an initial meeting to discuss our themed wedding. His had incredible attention to detail and made a great fly on the wall throughout the day! He captured some incredible moments and looking at the photos makes us feel that we are living the whole experience again”

The Big Day arrives
The day started in the barn with all the girls getting ready, the usual start of a day for me. Bex’s hairstyle was just amazing with beads and feathers, very Warrior Princess as she’d wanted, this, along with her bohemian style dress she looked so cool! The day then led onto a beautiful outdoor ceremony in the gardens at Hayne, performed by the lovely celebrant Frances Cave. The ceremony included a handfasting ceremony as well as the usual ring exchange. This gave way to a joyful afternoon in the Devon sunshine which consisted of face painting, a glitter bar, photobooth, a stilt walker ( this was Charlie, another member of the gym ) bouncy castle, the obligatory bridal burpees?? and handstand pushups, whaaaat! and the usual evening merriment which was all a joy to photograph. I love days like this, relaxed sunny days filled with laughter and love. The Hayne weddings that I have shot have all been awesome, check out Becca & John’s colourful day and Connie & Donna’s celebration in orange!
In the lead up to the wedding in Zeal Monochorum as with planning all events there were a few, well, little hiccups shall we say. One morning in the gym a panicky Bex in full flap came in only to mention that she had booked the caterer for the wrong day!! Don’t panic Mrs Mannering!! Within 20 minutes we, the collective gym members on hand had sorted a refrigerated truck and staff to both take delivery of the food on the Friday, you wally Bex, and to serve said food on the Saturday, the day of the wedding. Phew, worry over.
Next, only a few days prior to the wedding itself, Bex’s hairdresser dropped out. She had booked a particular hairdresser because she wanted the Warrior Princess style hairdo, which as it turned out better than she’d hoped for thanks to the talent of Stylesister Katherine.
This is where all my many years of experience come in handy , if you have a problem, photo related or not, you can always ask me a question. More often than not I’ll be able to either point you in the right direction or help out.
