SANDY COVE WEDDING
Ellie & Joe
I was really looking forward to Ellie & Joe’s Sandy Cove wedding. Their enthusiasm for the photos and the love they have for each other was plain to see from the moment I first met them for a quick chat a month or so before their wedding day.
All was going well with my plans for their day until the day before I tore the ligamnets in my ankle just by stepping out the front door of my house! A little bit of panic set in so I called two friends to ask if they could cover the wedding, or at least help out. With me being a bit dissabled and not my usual nimble self, I’m not really sure nimble is the right word, I wasnt sure I’d do the day justice. Thankfully, my good friend Anthony was available and came over the following day to help out whilst I hobbled arround with my ankle strapped.
The conspicuous joy these two had at accomplishing their goal to get married was wonderful to see, I too had a tear in my eye, they were just so excited. It was an honour to spend the day with these guys and their families, a day that will stay with me for a long time. Big thanks to Sandy Cove for always looking after me, especially on this day when I was hindered.
I asked Ellie & Joe an few questions about their day and experience with me, here are their answers.
“Mike, we don’t even know where to begin! These photos are absolutely magical! We’ve just spent the last hour with the biggest smiles on our faces, it’s been so lovely to look back at the day, you’ve captured it so amazingly well! The quality of your work is outstanding. We are so unbelievably happy and can’t thank you enough for all the hard work you put in to give us all these beautiful moments”

Tell us your pre wedding story.
We met on NYE 2011 at an engagement party for Joe’s best friend (and his best man, Ben) and Ellie’s sister (Grace)– so we are a cliché bridesmaid – best man hook-up. Ellie’s sister made us promise that we wouldn’t break up before their wedding, we feel like we’ve kept that promise and then some! We’ve been together for over 7 years and lived together in Oxford, Aberdeen and in Stavanger, Norway for the last 4 years. We bought our first home in Norway and every morning before work we have a cup of tea together overlooking the sea. Being by the water has a special significance for us both, we both work by the sea, live by the sea.
Joe proposed to Ellie overlooking Putsborough beach and we got married by the sea! Also, we spent a lot of our early relationship in Falmouth (where Ellie went to university) and spent many a happy day on the beach having BBQs and watching bands at Gylly Beach Cafe. We feel happiest when we’re together, chatting, giggling, playing board games (of which we have an ever-expanding collection, 30 games, and counting!) And finally, food is the other love in our life, for both of us! Whether it be cooking lovely food at the weekend, dining in fancy restaurants or snaffling picnics by the sea, our lives revolve around food!
Joe proposed to Ellie by the sea on the cliffs overlooking Putsborough beach on Christmas Day 2018, so we managed to organise a beautiful wedding in 4 months which is why we were able to not get bogged down in all the little details and just enjoy getting married.
What were your favourite parts of the day?
When we got to see each other for the first time on the day and were finally able to have a big hug! It was also lovely to see all our friends and family having such a great time together, seeing them play, chat and dance really made the day feel special to us. The time we got to spend together whilst taking photos on the beach was really precious, it was nice to have that time alone to take it all in for a moment.
What are your top tips for planning a wedding?
Get a great photographer so you can enjoy looking back on all the beautiful moments from the day. But also not to worry about the little things, drink lots of water (we were very dehydrated!) and just enjoy the day as it will go in a flash! Finally, you don’t need years to plan a wedding, have a short engagement to help focus on what’s important.
What were you looking for from your photos?
Candid and natural photography which is well framed and shot. A good eye for a unique moment and a photographer’s ability to be a seamless part of the day. We chose Michael because his work embodied everything that we wanted to have in our photos.
What entertainment did you have?
The Talking Bird Collective, Dan Brazier Magician and Sonic Fireworks.
Any comments about your day or photos?
We just couldn’t be happier with how the photos have turned out. The way that Michael just fit into the wedding party so seamlessly and helped the day go so effortlessly can’t be understated. It was a genuine pleasure to have him there on the day! The hard work that he put in right through the process really shows in the final product. By taking the time to understand what we wanted, to planning when and where we could have photos during the day. The countless hours that were taken to edit and select the vast number of photos. All added up to a treasured set of memories which we will forever be able to look back on and cherish.
