group photos
Time for a talk. This is probably one of the most stressful parts of the day for everyone. I often use the phrase ‘herding cats’ and I’m not not wrong. I always like to get groups done after the ceremony, before food as after the food, speeches and toasts it can be like ‘herding drunk cats’, not a prospect I or anyone else will enjoy. From experience it’s best to get your formals done after the ceremony, once you’ve relaxed a bit and had a glass of champers and plenty of hugs. But if you have a particular place/time in mind – that’s fine, we can discuss that.
I’ve found that 6-8 group shots is a pretty perfect amount. Prepare people for the group shots, if you’re doing a day plan for guests to see, build it into the plan so guests know not to wander too far, invariably there’s always someone who decides to go to the bar or loo, but don’t stress , it’ll get done. I often ask for a photo liason too, someone that knows both sides of the newly bonded family. If the list in your questionaire, which I’ll send prior to your day, is very specific having that extra pair of hands to fetch people is a huge help to keep things on track.
If you have a spot in mind for these photos thats fine but be prepared that if it’s super sunny or raining I might need to find some shade to get the best photos. I’ll very often take the safe shots then go for something more like you can see below, especially with your bridal party. I wont ask anyone to pick anybody up but it very often happens.
Most importantly, relax, smile and enjoy, your day is not about people standing in a line but these photos become part of your family history so I always advise two or three even if you’re dead set against them.
