SAUNTON BEACH WEDDING
Hannah & Stuart
The sun was to play a huge part of Hannah & Stuart’s wedding day. They had chosen to get married outside in one of their fields at Saunton along the North Devon Coast. Just a stones throw from Saunton Beach. Loving weddings and providing Devon wedding photography as I do, it all sounded like it was going to be fab day when they first told me their plans. The one thing that might cause a hiccup was rain.
Saunton Sands Hotel
My day started with Hannah, her Mum and bestie at The Saunton Sands Hotel. The ladies were getting all their ducks in a row and having their hair and make up done by the talented Cathy Vanstone. Its been a while since I’ve been to the Saunton Sands Hotel as they seem to have stopped doing lots of weddings. This used to be one of my regular haunts, so it was great to be back at this amazing Art Deco hotel.
Outdoor Ceremony
The ceremony was held just a mile or so from the hotel in a field owned by Stuarts family. It had been set up with a macrame arch at the top of the aisle giving a beautiful backdrop for the ceremony. All the guests were seated on straw bales awaiting Hannah’s arrival. Tom, one of the ushers, performed the ceremony as the couple had chosen to get married, legally, the week before. This meant that they could do whatever they wanted on their day without any kind of restrictions or formal faff, as they put it.
After the knot had been tied, the day ran super smoothly and everyone had a great time enjoying the late summer sunshine. It was glorious. The Devon weather was on my side, for a change, helping me out in my duties doing my wedding photography. Much merriment, laughter, beer and bubbles were consumed.
Saunton Sands Beach
The sun started to gently set and we, the three of us, headed down to Saunton Beach to shoot some portraits. The sun continued to shine but the colour was now starting to warm, golden hour was approaching. These guys were so relaxed, with me and of course, each other. They had had such a wonderful day so far, the smiles on their faces were ever present. I absolutley love the photos from this part of the day, they are some of my favourite photos I have ever shot. The light was amazing and the couple just so relaxed. When its like this my job feels easy.
Devon Barn Wedding
In the evening everyone headed into the barn, with a few more guests turning up to enjoy evening entertaiment and congratulate the newlyweds. The Nashville Heat got the party started and played throughout the evening.
There are a few weddings each year when everything just clicks. This wedding on a soggy day would still have been a good one purely because of the lovely people, but the late summer sunshine made it a great one. Congratulations you pair, catch up soon, Mike
